In June 2021 a temporary exhibition of the artist’s works opened at the Archdiocesan Museum in Warsaw. The paintings come from the collection of Piotr and Anna Dmochowski and from the museum’s holdings. It is this exhibition that we will see during the tour. Zdzisław Beksiński (1929–2005) is a creator who evokes strong emotions. Interest in his work extends far beyond painting enthusiasts — he also worked in design, sculpture and photography. It is hard to remain indifferent to his pieces; they inspired films, computer games, virtual reality projects and tattoos. From the archival materials left behind emerges a figure who valued artistic independence; Beksiński very rarely and reluctantly commented on his art, and he appeared at exhibitions only occasionally, mainly at the beginning of his career. The artist’s art dealer was Piotr Dmochowski — a Paris-based lawyer born in Poland who for many years ran galleries of Beksiński’s paintings in the French capital. The relationship between the painter and the dealer was sometimes turbulent, but Dmochowski was deeply involved in promoting Beksiński both financially and by devoting a large part of his life to him. A film was even made that premiered at the Cannes festival. Currently Piotr and Anna Dmochowski own the largest private collection of the artist’s works. I have been guiding Beksiński exhibitions for almost two years. On each tour I am intrigued by the level of emotion his paintings arouse, and by the multitude of impressions and interpretations from participants. Visiting Beksiński’s exhibition is an interesting experience, and a guided tour with the opportunity to share impressions and ask questions often becomes a deeply moving and intriguing experience. I am a guide with 14 years of experience. I lead 27 different thematic tours in Polish and English. I am a lover of art, history, cinema and music. I designed and guide three different tours about Beksiński’s work. See you on the tour! Paweł Mrozowicz #beksinski #warszawa #malarstwo #staremiasto #wycieczka #beks
