Polesie Lubelskie is the western edge of an extraordinary belt of wetlands stretching across present-day Belarus, Ukraine and Poland. The Bug, Pina and Pripyat rivers form the water backbone of one of Europe’s most exotic areas in terms of nature and ethnography. Marshes and river floodplains effectively protected this area from industrialization. After World War II, a process of large-scale drainage began, aimed at drying out the wetlands. We invite you on a micro-expedition into the world of wild nature and the beliefs of the former Polesians. REGISTRATION: https://poludnik21.pl PROGRAM: - Meeting point of participants: 25.04.2026 (Saturday), 7:00 — parking in front of the Palace of Culture and Science on the Kinoteka side. We depart at 7:05 heading towards Lublin. Planned end of the trip at the PKiN parking around 21:00–21:30. - Urszulin — at the headquarters of Polesie National Park we will learn how the European pond turtle is protected and reintroduced. - Spławy Trail (Polesie National Park) — near the PPN educational center we will start the trail toward Lake Łukie. About 4.5 km of the 7.5 km route will be walked on boardwalks suspended over wetlands. We will see eutrophic Lake Łukie (the largest lake of the Park), the Spławy peatbog, mound-and-depression alder carr and concentrations of water and marsh birds. Walking time: about 2.5 h. - Bonfire — bring your own provisions; the organizer provides trays, cups, forks, knives and skewers for roasting. - Sosnowica (about Kościuszko’s love) — in front of the palace annex where, after returning from the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, Tadeusz Kościuszko lived, we will tell about his lesser-known sides and his great (and unhappy) love for Ludwika Sosnowska. Here legend mixes with historical truth. - Czahary Trail (Polesie National Park) — the most beautiful of the nature trails. Walking on boardwalks through the Bubnów bog we will see the largest peatbog in PPN, the floodplain in Zastaw (a crane gathering area), sedge meadows and a presence of the aquatic warbler. Distance: about 5 km. Walking time: about 2.5 h. The trip is led by Piotr — a daily employee of PPN, involved in nature conservation and popularizing knowledge about it. NOTE: sturdy trekking shoes or comfortable rubber boots are required — in places boardwalks and paths may be covered with water. PRICE: 230 zł/person REGISTRATION: https://poludnik21.pl You are warmly invited!
