    About the event

We invite you on a unique micro-expedition along a route through villages inhabited since the reign of the Lion of Lechistan (Jan III Sobieski) by Polish Tatars. On this day we will look into the extraordinary history of Tatar settlement on the lands of Lithuania and the Crown. Every Pole knows the word ułan, originating from the Tatar language — translated as “young man”! We will tell stories of years of wars and light‑horse youths with reflex bows and sabres, about religion, language, dance, folk magic and cuisine. This day we will also take part in the spring festival organized in Bohoniki and visit two unique monuments — the Tatar mosques in Bohoniki and Kruszyniany. ZAPISY: https://poludnik21.pl/tatarskie-swieto-w-bohonikach-navruz-i-szlak-tatarski/ PROGRAM: Meeting of participants on 30.05.2026 (Saturday) at 6:50 AM in the parking lot in front of the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw (the parking lot in front of the “Kinoteka” cinema). Departure at 7:00 AM towards Bohoniki. Planned return to the same place around 9:00–9:30 PM. SOKÓŁKA – in this borderland town our first steps will be directed to the Alexander Nevsky Orthodox church. MALAWICZE GÓRNE – in this former Tatar village we will begin stories about the history and traditions of Polish Tatars. We will stop by the monument commemorating the Mucha Tatar family, and from the coach windows we will see the ruins of the famous windmill. BOHONIKI – here we will visit the wooden mosque of the Polish Tatars. The first mosque in the location of the current one most likely arose at the end of the 17th century. The present building was constructed around 1900. NAVRUZ – participation in the Tatar spring festival. Bohoniki will be lively that day. We will experience Tatar culture! We will have a unique opportunity to experience the Tatar language, music, dance, costumes and cuisine. SKRYNKI – a short walk through the multicultural Krynki. KRUSZYNIANY – here we will visit the mosque of the Polish Tatars and hear stories about their history and traditions and the sacred functions of the mosque. Mizar – visiting the most beautiful cemetery of the Polish Tatars. We will also learn about their funeral customs.
