Program: Day I — Introduction to SMURF, including FTM. Speech therapy diagnosis: - Two approaches to dyslalia in Polish speech therapy: traditional and new. - Shortcomings of the traditional three-phase model of dyslalia therapy. - SMURF versus traditional therapy. Domino effect and self-regulation. - From cry to a sound in a meaningful word. - Biomechanical basis of articulation. Biomechanical prototypes of primary functions. - Biomechanical prototypes of primary functions and the phoneme-phonetic system of the Polish language. - Diagnosis of phoneme realization disorders. Division into substitutions and deformations — a semblance of simplicity or a limitation? Analytical-phonetic method for examining phoneme realization. - Practical exercises: examining the articulation of one or several participants using the auditory-visual-tactile-experimental method. - Practical exercises: assessment of the lingual frenulum, bite, palate, palatal tonsils, temporomandibular joint, swallowing, chewing, breathing and parafunctional contact and non-contact habits. Day II — Physiological myofunctional therapy: - FTM as an element of the Strategic Method for Improving Phoneme Realization (SMURF). - Development of primary functions in ontogenesis. - Model of physiological breathing. - Transformation of swallowing. On unresolved problems. - Diagnosis of breathing and swallowing from the perspective of the work of the tongue in the oral phase from speech-therapy-orthodontic and ENT viewpoints; analysis of symptoms and their causes. Practical exercises. - Planning speech-therapy treatment in cases of swallowing and breathing disorders in the context of other functions of the orofacial complex, including articulation. - Revision of speech-therapy exercises for so-called tongue verticalization. Simple and complex lip and tongue exercises. - Strategies for inducing the vertical-horizontal tongue position. - Stages of exercises, types of exercises, learning breathing and swallowing. Practical exercises: - Learning the vertical-horizontal position, analysis of difficulties and ways to overcome them. - Learning breathing together with the resting position of the tongue. - Learning swallowing. Day III — Therapy programming, eliciting sounds in the SMURF approach: - Improving phoneme realization as a procedure of speech-therapy practice: - Procedure versus method and strategy. - Foundations of therapy for phoneme realization disorders in a strategic approach. - Eliciting sounds — a metaphorical or literal term? - Analytical and synthetic approaches to eliciting sounds. - Steps, methods and strategies for improving phoneme realization: - Constructing the articulatory forefield, including e.g. teaching breathing and swallowing for children from age 4. - Choosing the sequence of sound therapy: developmental or therapeutic; e.g. in cases of interdental, lateral, dorsal lisping, nasalization, devoiced speech, etc. - Preparation for improving phoneme realization using threshold-condition strategies. - Revision of lip, tongue and jaw mobility exercises. - Eliciting a sound: choosing the frame and elicitation method depending on the symptom and cause of the disorder. - Activating the sound within a larger structure. - Polarization of the sound. - Introducing the sound into everyday speech.
