
EuroJAZZ Foundation and the Bielański Cultural Centre invite you to another concert. Bogdan Hołownia Quintet feat. Magdalena Este line-up: Bogdan Hołownia – piano Magdalena Este – vocals Robert Murakowski – trumpet Wojciech Pulcyn – double bass Patryk Dobosz – drums “Idylla” is a project based on the collaboration of outstanding creators of the Polish artistic scene: Bogdan Hołownia, one of the most important Polish jazz pianists, and Jan Wołek, an author valued for the precision of his language, literary depth and exceptional musicality of his texts. As a result, the material combines jazz with poetic sensitivity. The whole is tied together by Magdalena Este’s warm, velvety, emotion-saturated vocal, which gives the performance an elegant yet intimate and reflective character. The “Idylla” project is co-created by excellent musicians: Wojciech Pulcyn (double bass), Patryk Dobosz (drums) and Robert Murakowski (trumpet). Bogdan Hołownia – pianist, composer, one of the most respected Polish “lyricists of the piano”. A graduate of the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. Present on the jazz scene since 1994, he has collaborated with world-class artists: Dave Clark, Skipp Hadden, George Zonc, as well as with major stars of the Polish scene, including Ewa Bem, Lora Szafran, Urszula Dudziak, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Jorgos Skolias and Michał Urbaniak. Winner of the Fryderyk Award in the category “Jazz Album of the Year” for the album “Don’t Ask Why – piano solo”. He has recorded dozens of albums: his own and with various artists. He is also engaged in promoting the work of his musical guru, Jerzy Wasowski. Apart from music, his second passion is chess. Magdalena Este – singer and composer, graduate of the Conservatory of Music in Amsterdam. She has won many awards at national and international competitions and festivals. From 2019 to 2023 she was head of the vocal department at Vijaybhoomi University in India. Thanks to her openness and love of travel, she draws inspiration from musical traditions around the world. She leads her own band, the Magdalena Este Trio, in which she combines jazz with poetry. For several years she has been co-creating the Bogdan Hołownia Quintet, with which she recorded the album “Idylla”. She is co-author of the project “Jazz for Children”, musical meetings based mainly on original compositions dedicated to the youngest, featuring leading musicians of the Polish jazz scene.
