Karolina Wiktor. Cartography of Motherhood Author's guided tour by Karolina Wiktor Place: Zachęta – National Gallery of Art Date and time: 8.03 (Sunday), 12:15 Admission included with exhibition ticket: tickets (https://bilety.zacheta.art.pl/rezerwacja/nienumerowane.html) On the occasion of International Women’s Day we invite you to an artist’s tour of the exhibition “Karolina Wiktor. Cartography of Motherhood”. The meeting will become a space for conversation about femininity experienced in an extreme situation: after a stroke, in the experience of aphasia and in the long process of rehabilitation. In her latest exhibition at Zachęta, the artist addresses motherhood from the perspective of a woman who, after a neurological crisis, is relearning the world — language, relationships, everyday activities. At the centre of this story is the relationship between a mother with aphasia and her daughter. Shared gestures, domestic rituals and the development of alternative forms of communication become not only a way of understanding one another, but also a process of regaining agency, subjectivity and a place in the world. During the tour we will look at femininity as the experience of a body in change, intimacy reconstructed after crisis and the social (in)visibility of mothers with disabilities. We will consider how “regaining a voice” can mean creating a new alphabet — based on drawing, gesture, rhythm and attention — and how art becomes a tool for describing, negotiating and transcending the limitations of body and language. photo: HaWa
