I really like in dance that moment when, out of nowhere, a (micro)eruption of vitality appears in the body. Suddenly what isn't working, I don't feel like it, or I'm not interested in what I'm doing, turns into an engaged following of a carefree tangle of directions, forms and imaginations. I can fully surrender to this state, or I can observe what it does to me, what movement qualities it creates and how it transforms the space around. I can treat it as a dance experience or as a choreographic laboratory. It can be a state of high intensity or a gentle poke in the nose. During the workshop we will create conditions that favour the appearance of such flashes of creativity, pleasure in movement and ardent curiosity for the richness sleeping in the dancing body. The process will on the one hand be individual in character, and on the other accompanied by the much-needed today practice of being together. We will practise individual movement while not forgetting the ways we can inspire one another, support each other's development and be silly together. We will invest energy and attention in following our own needs, gathering and generating shared performativity. I encourage participation in the workshops for at least two reasons: - following the need to take care of your own body and to multisensorily experience flows (thoughts, sensations, emotional states) - following the need to develop specialist (amateur and professional) knowledge in the field of dance improvisation and experimental choreography. The workshops will combine elements of routine and spontaneity. We will begin by grounding in the space and warming up, to give the body a clear signal that it can, in its own rhythm, open to the creative potential sleeping within. At the end of the session we will create space for integrating the experience through calming and grounding. - We will dance to (good) music and in silence (carefully, so as not to overload the nervous system with excessive sound). - We will follow the movement of attention — observe and contemplate movement. - We will listen and produce sounds. - We will work with (self)touch and voluntary consent. - We will fuel our improvisations with a good dose of humour, play and silliness. - From time to time we will take notes and draw.
